The Airborne Service Helicopter Rushed to Rescue A Tourist Who Fell Down and Got Hurt At Suhsi

On January 4, 2016, a group of 9 tourist traveled at Suhsi, Shoufenghsi, Hualien. A male tourist among them carelessly tumbled and had fracture on the left leg. Fortunately, he remained conscious after that. The vehicle could not reach the place, which located at the Erhchih mountainous area of Wanjung village. Therefore, his accompanying friends instantly went downhill and reported the police. After receiving the helicopter application form the Fire Agency of Hualien County, the Airborne Service Corp, MOI made a risk assessment and confirmed the basic information and coordinate position of the injured. After that, the Corp immediately dispatched equipped crews of Type UH-1H (No. NA-517) from the Ground 3 of the 1st Service Battalion to go for rescue. The task plane arrived at the target area at 9:04. Nevertheless, the wind blew the airflow and that seriously influenced the stability of the helicopter. It might be riskful to adopt the aloft hanging method. After discussion, the crews of the task plane decided to slowly landed on the ground and carried the injured into the cabin. The task plane made its return voyage at about 9:06 and arrived at the Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital at about 9:18. The medical personnel took over the injured to perform further rescue. The mission was completed successfully.
