The Airborne Service Helicopter Rescued A German Female Tourist Who Fell Down and Hurt Herself
On November 28, 2015, a group of 36 tourists camped out at the Wuyen corner, Su’ao, Yilan. Among them, a German female (about 22 years old) carelessly fell down from a rock and got a laceration about 15 centimeters long and 4 centimeters wide on her leg. Fortunately, she still remained conscious after that. Vehicle could not arrived at the place and one hour of walk was needed. Moreover, the road was steep. It would be difficult and time-consuming for carrying the injured by man-powers. Thus, helicopter support was urgently applied for. After receiving the task inform, the Airborne Service Corp made a risk assessment and confirmed the basic data and coordinate position of the injured. The Corp then immediately dispatched the equipped crews of Type UH-1H (No. NA-513) from the Group 3 of the 1st Service Battalion to go for rescue. The task plane arrived at the target area at about 16:50. The wind and airflow seriously affected the stability of the helicopter. It might be riskful to adopt aloft hanging method. After discussion, the crews of the task plane decided to slowly landed on the ground and carried the injured into the plane. The plane made its return voyage at 16:59 and arrived at the Luodong Sports Park at about 17:18. The ground firefighters and medical personnel took over the injured to do further rescue. The mission was completed successfully.
