The Airborne Service Helicopter Rushed to Rescue 11 Climbers Who Trapped in Snowfield

At about 13 on March 26, 2016, the Airborne Service Corp, MOI received an emergency task inform from the Fire Agency: “Totally 11 climbers get trapped in snowfield, including a group of 4 from Taichung city and a group of 7 from Chiayi County”. They entered the mountain from Juisui of Hualien. Out of snowy day and poor equipment, they has been trapped at the Chuntung Mountain in Nantou for three days. They are short of food and someone among them has been attacked by hypothermia. Rescue is urgently needed.”After confirming relevant information and coordinate position, the Corp instantly inform equipped crews of Type B-234 (No. NA-602) from Group 1 (stationed at Tainan) of the 3rd Service Battalion to go for rescue. The task plane took off at about 13:20 and found those climbers at the mountain ridge at about 14:05. After executing airborne reconnaissance, the task plane landed at the ground at about 14:10. With about 30 centimeters of snow covered on the mountain, the terrain is so steep that persons moved forward difficultly. Therefore, logistic personnel assisted climbers board the cabin and made the return voyage immediately. At about 14:38, the plane landed at the Chushan Training Center of the Fire Agency. The ground personnel took over the patient to do further rescue. The task plane arrived at Tainan at about 15:35. The mission was successfully completed.
