Squadron 1 of NASC 2nd Wing Stationed at Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport, Taichung, received a phone call from the Duty Command Center at 1600 hour today (18th) requesting immediate airlift for medical evacuation of a male seaman who suffered difficulty of breathing on board of a cargo ship, the Wan Sheng, 10 nautical miles off the Taichung Harbor (coordinate: N24-13-12 E120-21-42). 
An AS-365N Dolphin, no. NA-110, was scrambled for the airlift for medical evacuation of a male seaman who suffered difficulty of breathing on board of a cargo ship, the Wan Sheng, 10 nautical miles off the Taichung Harbor as soon as the order was received. The crew on standby was briefed of the mission, started the engine at 1610 hour and took off at 1615 hour, heading for the coordinate N24-13-12 E120-21-42, 10 nautical miles off Taichung Harbor at the altitude of 1,000 feet at maximum continuous horsepower. At 1626, the helicopter arrived at the target area and spotted the Wan Sheng. The crew started the horsepower check and the airlift evaluation while maintaining radio contact with the Coast Guard patrol boat at site. Once the pilot finished the rescue CRM, he took the helicopter down and landed on the ship at 1629 hour. The assisting Coast Guard crew and the helicopter’s crew chief helped the patient into the cabin at 1631 hour. The helicopter took off and left the target area at 1632 hour heading for Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport. The pilot brought the helicopter down at the helipad at 1640 hour and the engine was turned off at 1650 hour, while the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance for another perfect rescue mission.
