2019/3/11 NASC rushed to rescue for medical evacuation 44 nautical miles northwest of Taichung Harbor out at sea

An airlift was requested for a Russian seaman who was in urgent need of medical evacuation for his two severed fingers.

Stationed at Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport, Taichung, squadron 1 of NASC 2nd Wing received a phone call from the Duty Command Center at 1618 hour today (11th) requesting an emergency medical evacuation of a Russian seaman who suffered two severed fingers on board of a cargo ship (the MASKER SKARSTIND) 44 nautical miles northwest of Taichung Harbor (coordinate: N24-34 E119-45).

An AS-365N Dolphin, no. NA-110, was scrambled as soon as the order was received. The crew on standby started the engine at 1630 hour immediately after the mission briefing and took off from Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport at 1642 hour. The helicopter maintained its maximum continuous horsepower toward the target area. On the arrival at the target area at 1710 hour, the crew began high and low altitude recon and selected the direction of approach for the airlift. 1730 hour, the wounded seaman was secured and lifted into the cabin as the crew reported to the HQs. The lift was completed at 1747 hour. At 1807 hour, the helicopter touched down on the helipad at Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport. The seaman was transferred to a waiting ambulance to rush to Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital for treatment. It was another job well done.
