Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang visited the National Airborne Service Corps (NASC) today, extending his personal gratitude to the team for their outstanding contributions to rescue operations across natural disasters, mountain rescues, and sea missions. Since January, the NASC has successfully saved 182 lives, often under severe weather conditions and challenging terrains. Recognizing their relentless dedication, Minister Liu also announced the provision of additional meal allowances for the crew.
Minister Liu praised the leadership of NASC Captain Ching Yen-Yuan, whose emphasis on strict discipline, enhanced flight training, and rigorous aircraft maintenance has significantly bolstered the NASC’s operational safety and efficiency. The NASC’s bravery and commitment were particularly evident in their exemplary response to the Hualien earthquake on April 3rd and Typhoon Gaemi. Minister Liu expressed his profound appreciation and commendation for their unwavering efforts.
Commander Ching outlined the NASC’s key responsibilities, which include land and sea rescues, emergency medical evacuations, surveillance, reconnaissance, and transportation. In alignment with the government's mountain and forest access policy, the NASC has been instrumental in supporting the National Park Service's renovation of mountain huts since 2022. Utilizing UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, they have effectively transported construction materials to remote mountain huts, such as Piao Dan, Yopolan, Bei’an Sancha, Panshishan Zhongfeng, Dalishi, and Xinguangao. This initiative not only integrates training flights with operational tasks but also demonstrates exemplary inter-agency cooperation.
