Squadron 3 of NASC’s 2nd Wing stationed at Taichung Ching Chuan Kang Airport received a telephone request from the NASC command center at 07:40 on the 20th of this month to extinguish fire occurred at an aborigine reserved land nearby Wushe (Wanda) Reservoir in Renai Township, Nantou County (coordinates: N24 01.17, E121 05.59; altitude at 1150 m). Due to steep terrain and a wide-range of fire, it was difficult for fire-fighting personnel to enter the site. To quickly extinguish the fire, the Squadron was requested to sprinkle water from the air.

Upon receipt of the mission, the Squadron immediately dispatched UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter No.NA-705 and 702 to implement the mission. The standby crew immediately took the field and received mission briefing in front of the helicopters. Due to the steep terrain of fire scene, these two Black Hawk helicopters dropped 7 and 8 times of water respectively (totally 15 times and 30 tons of water.) As the fire-fighting unit then took control of the fire scene, the crew then returned to the base at 10:30 after reported the situation to the command center.
