The helicopter number NA-109 of the 1st team of the NASC 1st Battalion received a notification from the NASC Duty Command Center at 19:30 to implement a sea rescue mission: Two citizens were stuck on a turned over sampan: “The location was 300 to 400 meters away from the coast and between Keelung’s Wanghaihsiang and the elephant-nose rock. An immediate rescue was required”. The helicopter had its engine turned on at 19:45 and, after tested facilities and radio on the ground, took off at 19:56. The helicopter flew over Xizhi and Keelung Badouzih Fishing Port then reached the target zone at 20:04. When the crew arrived, the location had big waves, wind and a bad visibility. However, they immediately discovered a rescue target on the turned over sampan and tossed a smoke bomb to mark the location. As the helicopter had a heavier fuel loading, the crew firstly tried numerous hovering directions and consumed some fuels. At 20:52, the hoist work was conducted and the rescue target (陳OO,46.02.22) was successfully entered the cabin at 20:58. The flight crew continued to search for another target along the coast but had no positive result. They therefore reported back to the Duty Command Center, informing their decision of delivering the rescued target to Taipei Songshan Airport first. The helicopter left Keelung at 21:12 and landed at Songshan Airport. The rescued target was then delivered to hospital for treatment.
