The B-234 helicopter number NA-603 of the 1st team of the 3rd NASC battalion implemented the mountain rescue mission in the location of North Peak of Chilai Mountain and West Peak of Panshi Mountain. The flight crew turned on the helicopter engine at 06:20 and took off from Tainan Airport at 06:40. The first target zone was Dongpo Pond of the North Peak of Chilai Mountain located in 93 nautical miles away from Tainan with the direction at 045 degrees. Maintained at height of 10,000ft, the helicopter discovered the target at 07:50. After implemented low and high aerial survey and checked the wind direction and speed, the crew decided to adopt the landing approach to save the rescue target. The helicopter landed at a highland 50 meters away from the northeastern side of Dongpo Pond at 07:55 and picked up 4 people of the mountain climbing group and 4 rescue members of Hualien County Fire Department. One of the hiking members had a fractured leg and was unable to walk. After all the members got on board, the helicopter took off at 08:00 and headed to the second target zone, which was the West Peak of Panshi Mountain, to search for the body of the deceased mountain climber. After arrived in the West Peak of Panshi Mountain, the helicopter immediately implemented aerial survey and discovered the body at 08:10. After implemented low and high aerial survey and checked the wind direction and speed, the crew decided to adopt the landing approach to save the rescue target and the helicopter landed at 08:15. SSRT members from the south and rescue members of Hualien County Fire Department used merit bag to wrap the body. After all the members and the body got on board, the helicopter took off at 08:20 and landed at Hualien Airport at 08:45. People from Hualien Fire Department then took over the following work and the helicopter took off again at 09:05. The helicopter landed at Taitung Airport at 10:00, turned off its engine at 10:10, refueled and flew back to Tainan Airport.
