A Philippine sailor ANTHONY ABOLTICO (male, 24 years old) suffered from right knee compound fracture with excessive bleeding required an immediate treatment. An EMS to transfer the patient to the main island for treatment was therefore requested.
After received a notification from the National Rescue Command Center to implement the EMS mission, the 1st team of the 1st NASC battalion dispatched Helicopter number NA-106 to implement the sea rescue mission. According to the information, a sailor ANTHONY ABOLTICO of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines tugboat (Coordinates: N26-31-71 E122-05-41, 90 nautical miles north-north-west of Songshan) suffered from right knee compound fracture with excessive bleeding required an immediate EMS. The helicopter then took off from Taipei Songshan Airport at 11:38 and, with its maximum and constant horsepower, flew along Tamsui River to the target zone in the north. After it arrived in the target zone at 12:37, it first confirmed the location of the tugboat, implemented low and high aerial survey, and decided the entering direction and area for conducting the hoist work. Nevertheless, as the operation zone on the tugboat was too small and the wind and waves were too big, the rescue mission was failed despite the fact that CGA members attempted to get on boat twice and the flight crew had conducted numerous discussions. Luckily, the rescue members eventually got on the boat for the third time and successfully moved the patient at 13:17 by using the hoist system. They reported back to the command center and checked the status of the patient. As the patient was losing the temperature, the crew had given him a blanket to keep him warm. As the weather was getting worse at 13:30 and the commend center had timely offered the crew information related to Songshan including low visibility and low ceilings, the crew had requested an ILS entrance to the air control center accordingly. At 14:00, the helicopter landed at the apron of Taipei Songshan Airport and the patient was transported to hospital by the ambulance. This mission was successfully completed.
