Taitung County Fire Department received a report: Mr. 許, who went hiking alone on 17 March 2014, was hit by a branch and was unable to walk due to waist injury. As his life might be endangered if he continued to stay in mountains, an air transfer by the helicopter was requested.
The team immediately dispatched helicopter number NA-506 to implement the rescue mission the 17th. However, as the ceiling in the target zone was covered, the team was unable to implement the rescue mission. Today (the 22nd) at 12:00, ground rescue personnel reported that the weather conditions in mountains became better and the standby crew of NA-506 immediately implemented the mission. The helicopter took off at 12:25 and arrived in the target zone (mountain areas of Daren Township in Taitung County) around 12:45. The flight crew firstly contacted the ground rescue personnel to confirm their location and then completed low and high aerial survey and large horsepower test. The hoist operation was then performed to get the patient on board. Then the helicopter headed back to Taitung and landed at Taitung Airport at 13:21. The patient was then transferred to Mackay Memorial Hospital Taitung Branch by the ambulance for treatment.
