Nov 9 2016, National Airborne Service rescued an injured mountain hiker in the Nenggao Mountains at Ren-ai, Nantou. The mission was a success.

Squadron 3, 2nd Wing of National Airborne Service Corps stationed at Chingchuankang Airport, Taichung received a phone call from the HQs at 07:20 today (Nov 9). A rescue mission was requested in the Nenggao Mountains at Ren-ai, Nantou, as one of the members in a group of mountain hikers, Mr. Chuan (35) suffered a dislocated left shoulder and twisted right ankle. He was immobilized by the injury and in need of rescue.

A UH-60M Blackhawk, numbered NA-703, was scrambled as soon as the order was received. The crew standing by was briefed before mounting the aircraft. The engine started at 07:30 and the helicopter took off at 07:45 heading directly to the target location (23°59’N and 121°15’E). At 08:15 the helicopter arrived at the target area at the altitude of 10,000 feet. In a few minutes, the hikers were spotted on a trail along the ridge line waiting for help. A crewmember was lowered to the ground examining the hiker’s injury and decided to hoist him up to the hovering helicopter. At 08:22 the passenger was picked and the helicopter headed back to the airport. The injured hiker stayed conscious the whole time with stable life signs. At 08:42, the helicopter touched down at Chingchuankang Airport where the injured hiker was handed over to a waiting ambulance to take him to Taichung Veteran General Hospital. The mission was a success.
