In the aftermath of Typhoon Gaemi, which brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to southern Taiwan, the National Airborne Service Corps (NASC) demonstrated exemplary dedication through their successful execution of various rescue operations. Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang acknowledged these efforts during a visit to the Third Squadron of the Corps, where she inspected their operations and awarded additional bonus funds in recognition of the crew’s unwavering commitment.
During Typhoon Gaemi’s impact on central and southern regions, the NASC conducted multiple critical rescue operations. These included the rescue of individuals from the vessels Fushun, Dolphin, Keta, and Mai La Lun, and mountain rescue missions initiated on July 25. Despite adverse sea conditions and the challenging terrains of mountainous areas, the NASC maintained a steadfast commitment to humanitarian service, successfully rescuing 26 individuals.
Minister Liu commended the collaborative spirit among various government agencies which contributed to the successful rescues. She expressed gratitude to auxiliary units including the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and agencies within the Ministry of the Interior such as the National Fire Agency. The ability of the NASC to perform under such demanding circumstances was particularly lauded.
With the ongoing flood season, Minister Liu emphasized the importance of public safety during outdoor activities such as hiking and marine sports. She urged the public to exercise caution, which not only reduces the strain on rescue services but also safeguards individual safety. Hikers are advised to check weather forecasts in advance, steer clear of mountainous areas during typhoon alerts, and seek immediate shelter if caught in adverse weather conditions.
